According to Merriam-Webster, vision is defined as the act or power of seeing. It can be in a dream, through our imaginations, or in a tangible way with something that we can actually see. When this year began and we were all making declarations and selecting words to suggest what the year would bring to our lives, none of us saw what is actually happening across our nation and around the world.

Our vision can be blurry sometimes because we see through emotions, what others have told or tell us we should be doing, or through what we think we’re actually capable of. If we’re honest with ourselves, we know how deeply confining all of these can be. In fact, I personally know people who choose over and over again to accept other people’s disrespectful and hurtful treatment based on personal, religious, or societal beliefs or principles they’ve subscribed to. In other words, people can get lost in the principle.

I say the journey to becoming the best version of yourself requires you to tap into some practical realities about sight and getting out of the boxes you and other people try to put you in.

The God I know and love works in ways unimaginable to enable you to be exactly who he created you to be – mistakes and all. He delights in ordinary people, like us, who are willing to seek His standard of excellence and not the world’s. Think about it, what’s the point of grace and mercy if you can’t use it? I don’t know about you, but I fall short whether I’m being measured by the world’s standards or His. I encourage you to refocus and set your sights on discovering the brand that is uniquely yours to become the best version of yourself. It’s not only in your sight, it is in your reach.
